What Is an Electronic Logbook in Australia?

An electronic logbook is the digital version of a truck driver's work diary. In Australia it needs NHVR approval as an electronic work diary (EWD) before drivers can use it instead of paper.

Approved logbooks timestamp every entry, keep records secure and let drivers show their records to an authorised officer on the device. They also do the counting, so drivers can see how much time they have left.

Logmaster is an NHVR approved electronic logbook built for Australian heavy vehicle operators.

What Changes in the Cab

Most Australian drivers still call it the logbook, even when it lives on a phone. Logmaster keeps the familiar job of recording work and rest, and adds the counting and break reminders.
Minute-by-minute logging icon

Every minute counts

Paper logbooks mark time in quarter hours. An electronic logbook records the real minute, so short breaks and early finishes show up as they happened.
Less paperwork icon

No handwriting to decipher

Typed entries replace scrawled times and crossed-out lines, so there's nothing for an officer to squint at. Log sheets reach the office each week on their own.
Fatigue breach alert icon

Stay inside your limits

The app watches your rolling totals and sends an alert before a breach, so a miscount doesn't catch you out.
Offline mode icon

Logs between phone towers

Long stretches between towers are normal on Australian routes. Entries keep saving offline and sync once you're back in range.
Drivers icon

Privacy built into the logbook

The app notes a location when you enter a work or rest change and doesn't follow you in between. GPS fills in the suburb, and you can edit it if the signal drifts.

What the Office Sees

A paper logbook only shows the office what happened once it's handed in. With an electronic logbook, each entry is visible as soon as it's made.

Today's entries, today

Watch work and rest come in from every driver during the day, and move jobs around before someone runs short of hours.

Forms beside the logbook

Fitness declarations, pre-start checks and incident reports are stored in the same system as the logbook, so a driver's full day is in one record.

Fewer surprises

A clear electronic trail makes it simpler to show an auditor how you managed fatigue risk.

Rosters built on real hours

Build rosters from the hours drivers actually have left, instead of from what last week's paper said.

Easy onboarding

Drivers used to a paper logbook will recognise what the app asks for, with fewer boxes to fill in.

Phones, tablets or mounts

Run it on Android 7+ or iOS 12.5.5+, or ask Logmaster to supply tablets and truck mounts for a fixed setup in the cab.

It reaches operators through a network of more than 80 channel partners. The logbook works in every state and territory that runs under the HVNL, and it includes the fatigue plans used in Western Australia, which sets its own rules. Data security is covered by ISO 27001 certification, and the product keeps changing as the HVNL does, shaped by what drivers and record keepers tell the team.

What Australian Drivers Say

Ray A.

First day with Logmaster was to my surprise was user friendly. Josh was very thorough in taking me through all the steps in setting up the Logmaster app. I would recommend Logmaster to all drivers regardless of age. Never have to worry about making a mistake as it tells you if you are. Great customer service after hours support is second to none.

Mike H.

Have started using Logmaster after trying 3 other models. I actually enjoy using it. Very easy to use and follow and the help if you need it is top notch by the developer. Does everything by the minute and works when no service is available. My system is customised for me and fits well with my system (I’m WA). Cost is on par with two of the other ones looked at.
