An NHVR Approved EWD for Your Fleet

Only an electronic work diary approved by the NHVR can replace the written diary. Logmaster's EWD holds that approval and runs on the Android and Apple devices your drivers already use.

What NHVR Approval Means

An Electronic Work Diary (EWD) is an electronic system the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator has approved as meeting its EWD Standards. Once approved, it can be used instead of the written National Driver Work Diary for regulatory purposes.

The NHVR publishes a list of approved EWDs with contact details for each approval holder. It approves systems that meet the Standards, but it doesn't endorse any particular product.

Logmaster is on that list. Its approval certificate is published on the NHVR website, and the system is approved as device agnostic, so it isn't tied to one brand of hardware.

What Drivers Get From an Approved EWD

For drivers, approval means the app on their phone is their legal work diary, not a side record kept alongside a booklet.
Minute-by-minute logging icon

A legal diary on the phone

Entries made in Logmaster count as the driver's work diary, so there's no written diary to keep up as well.
Less paperwork icon

Minutes, not blocks

Work and rest are recorded to the minute, and minutes a driver doesn't use stay available later in the day.
Fatigue breach alert icon

Alerts that come before a breach

Break reminders and a running count of time remaining help the driver stop at the right time.
Offline mode icon

Room to correct mistakes

Until the day is signed off, a driver can go back and fix an entry they got wrong.

Location only at entries

GPS records the suburb when an entry is made, and the app doesn't follow the driver in between.

What Operators Are Still Responsible For

Choosing an approved EWD doesn't hand your record keeping obligations to the provider. Under NHVR guidance, the operator and the technology provider share legal responsibility for record keeping.

Driver consent and setup

Before drivers start, operators may need their consent and licence details, and should make sure each driver is trained to use the system.

Devices kept working

Operators have to provide the resources to keep EWDs in proper working order, or to restore them to it.

Records you can produce

Work diary records must be kept for three years where an authorised officer can access them. Logmaster stores them in the cloud and the portal can export them.

Live monitoring

Record keepers see entries as they're made and get alerts for potential breaches across the fleet.

Paper drivers alongside

Drivers who stay on the written diary can be entered into the portal and checked for breaches in the same place.

Support when you need it

Logmaster's support team and training centre help drivers and record keepers get set up and stay confident with the system.

Electronic Work Diary vs Paper Logbook

How an approved EWD compares with the written work diary.
Electronic Work Diary
Paper Logbook
One minute accuracy
Fifteen minute blocks
Automatic syncing
Manual entries
Easy to read and access
Handwriting varies
Real time operator visibility
No live oversight
Secure cloud storage
Can be lost or damaged
Faster audits and reporting
Time consuming
Both are legal. The difference is how much of the work the system does for the driver and the office.

How It Works

Moving your fleet onto Logmaster's approved EWD follows a simple path.
Step 1

Check your rule sets

Step 2

Set up the account

Create your Logmaster account and add your drivers and vehicles in the portal.
Step 3

Brief and train drivers

Explain the change to drivers, collect any consent you need and use the training centre to get them started.
Step 4

Install on devices

Drivers install the app on Android or Apple devices, or use tablets with truck mounts from Logmaster.
Step 5

Go live

Drivers log work and rest in the EWD from their next shift.
Step 6

Hear from Our Users

Ray A.

First day with Logmaster was to my surprise was user friendly. Josh was very thorough in taking me through all the steps in setting up the Logmaster app. I would recommend Logmaster to all drivers regardless of age. Never have to worry about making a mistake as it tells you if you are. Great customer service after hours support is second to none.

Mike H.

Have started using Logmaster after trying 3 other models. I actually enjoy using it. Very easy to use and follow and the help if you need it is top notch by the developer. Does everything by the minute and works when no service is available. My system is customised for me and fits well with my system (I’m WA). Cost is on par with two of the other ones looked at.
