Where to Buy a Truck Work Diary

The written National Driver Work Diary isn't sold at the servo. It's issued over the counter by government agencies, and the driver has to be there in person.

How the Written Diary Is Issued

The National Driver Work Diary is issued to the driver, not to the business. NHVR guidance says the application at the front of the diary is filled in in front of an issuing officer, and the NHVR lists more than 500 places to buy one under "locations to purchase" on its website.

Diaries are sold through state and territory transport agencies and their service centres. WA's Department of Transport adds that a diary can only be issued to the driver, so a third party can't collect one on your behalf.

There's also an option with no counter at all: an NHVR approved EWD such as Logmaster can be used instead of the written diary.

What Operators Should Plan For

A driver without a diary can't do diary work, so supply matters to the business too.

Running out mid‑trip

A full diary means supplementary records for up to seven business days while the driver gets to a service centre.

The driver has to go

Diaries are issued to the driver in person, so a manager can't stock up for the whole fleet.

Old diaries still count

Written diaries issued before 1 August 2026 remain valid under the amended rules.

Other jurisdictions

Drivers in South Australia, the ACT and elsewhere can find their nearest outlet through the NHVR's locations list.

The EWD route

An approved EWD removes diary purchases altogether, with records sent to the office each week.

Paper drivers in view

Drivers who stay on the written diary can still be checked for breaches through Logmaster's paper workbook entry.

Hear from Our Users

Ray A.

First day with Logmaster was to my surprise was user friendly. Josh was very thorough in taking me through all the steps in setting up the Logmaster app. I would recommend Logmaster to all drivers regardless of age. Never have to worry about making a mistake as it tells you if you are. Great customer service after hours support is second to none.

Mike H.

Have started using Logmaster after trying 3 other models. I actually enjoy using it. Very easy to use and follow and the help if you need it is top notch by the developer. Does everything by the minute and works when no service is available. My system is customised for me and fits well with my system (I’m WA). Cost is on par with two of the other ones looked at.
