What Is WorkSafe WA Fatigue Management?

WorkSafe WA fatigue management is the set of rules for commercial vehicle drivers in Western Australia, under the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and the Work Health and Safety (General) Regulations 2022. WorkSafe WA administers them, and its code of practice explains how to apply them.

Businesses need a driver fatigue management plan and must keep records of each driver's work time, breaks and non-work time. Drivers have to drive within WA's operating standard, hold a current medical certificate and keep records.

The Heavy Vehicle National Law doesn't apply in WA, and work diaries aren't required for driving within the state. Once a truck over 12 tonnes, or a bus built for more than 12 adults, is driven outside WA and the NT, the driver needs a work diary under the HVNL.
