What Is Fatigue Management in Australia?

Fatigue management in Australia is how heavy vehicle drivers and operators stop tiredness becoming a safety risk. In most states and territories it's governed by the Heavy Vehicle National Law, which sets work and rest limits and record keeping rules.

Under the HVNL, drivers work Standard Hours unless their operator holds accreditation for something else. New applicants apply for ACA-Fatigue and its Alternative Compliance Hours, while existing BFM and AFM accreditations carry on until they expire or the operator transitions. WA and the NT run their own fatigue schemes.

Logmaster helps on both sides: drivers get an NHVR approved electronic work diary with rest reminders, and the office sees hours across the fleet as they're logged.

Fatigue Tools in the Driver's Hands

Managing fatigue starts with knowing how long you've worked. The app keeps that total for you and tells you when rest is due.
Minute-by-minute logging icon

Minute-by-minute records

Recording to the minute shows exactly when each rest started and ended, which a 15-minute paper block can't.
Less paperwork icon

Done in a few taps

Recording rest is quick, so it actually gets done during a busy shift. Weekly log sheets travel to the office automatically, with no diary to hand in.
Fatigue breach alert icon

Stay inside your limits

A reminder arrives before a rest break is due, and another before you run out of work time. That early warning helps keep a long afternoon from ending in a breach.
Offline mode icon

Built for remote routes

Fatigue rules still apply where there's no coverage. Offline mode switches on by itself, entries are stored locally and they upload when signal comes back.

Trusted on the road

An owner driver and a fleet of hundreds use the same app, and it takes little time to learn.

Managing Fatigue from the Office

With Logmaster, fatigue records become a live view rather than a weekly paper chase. Spot drivers running low on hours and act early.

Fleet‑wide fatigue view

See which drivers are close to their limits right now, and give the next job to someone with time to spare.

Everything in one portal

Fatigue paperwork moves onto digital forms, with a custom form builder for your own checks, and every form is stored and searchable.

Stay ahead of breaches

Alerts point out a potential breach while it can still be avoided, before it becomes a fine, an incident or an uncomfortable audit finding.

Smarter scheduling

Roster rest as carefully as work, using live hours to see which drivers need a break before their next job.

Quick to learn

Drivers only need a few steps, since the app handles the fatigue maths in the background.

Any phone, or a fitted tablet

Fatigue records can live on the driver's own phone or tablet, so nothing has to be wired into each truck.

Electronic Work Diary vs Paper Logbook

How each approach handles fatigue.

Paper records fatigue after the fact. An EWD warns before a limit and shares the record with the office as it happens.

How It Works

Here's how fatigue is managed through a shift.
Step 1

Set up the app

Install the app on a phone or tablet and work through the brief setup.
Step 2

Do your pre-start

Your fitness declaration is part of managing fatigue, so it's done on the device along with the vehicle checklist.
Step 3

Log work and rest

A couple of taps starts work or rest, and the exact minute is saved. The guided screens keep entry errors down.
Step 4

Automatic syncing

Background syncing gives the office your newest entries without you doing anything.
Step 5

Fatigue portal for the office

Managers review fatigue alerts, check records and follow each driver's hours in one secure web portal.
Step 6

Reports on demand

Set reports to run on a schedule, or export fatigue records whenever you need them.

Hear from Our Users

Ray A.

First day with Logmaster was to my surprise was user friendly. Josh was very thorough in taking me through all the steps in setting up the Logmaster app. I would recommend Logmaster to all drivers regardless of age. Never have to worry about making a mistake as it tells you if you are. Great customer service after hours support is second to none.

Mike H.

Have started using Logmaster after trying 3 other models. I actually enjoy using it. Very easy to use and follow and the help if you need it is top notch by the developer. Does everything by the minute and works when no service is available. My system is customised for me and fits well with my system (I’m WA). Cost is on par with two of the other ones looked at.
