How to Understand and Fix Breaches in Your Electronic Work Diary (EWD)

At Logmaster, we know it can be confusing when your Electronic Work Diary (EWD) shows a breach warning. Don’t worry — we’re here to help you understand what a breach warning means, when it becomes serious, and what you can do about it.

What Is a Breach in an EWD?

A breach means that, based on the driving and resting times entered into your diary, it looks like you might have broken a fatigue management rule. But – and this is important – a breach is just a calculation based on the information in your diary. If something is missing or incorrect, the system might wrongly show a breach.

Good news:
– If your diary is still unlocked, the breach is only a warning.
– You can still edit and fix your entries before you lock your diary.

How to Handle Breach Warnings

When you see a breach warning:
1. Don’t panic. It’s just a warning until you lock.
2. Check your events:
  – Have you logged all your breaks?
  – Are your start and finish times correct?
  – Did you miss any work or rest periods?
3. Edit if needed:
  – Use the Events and Editing screen to fix any mistakes.
  – If you forgot to log a break, or entered the wrong time, you can fix it now.

Important: Only Lock a Correct Diary

When you’re ready to lock:
– The system will check your diary again.
– If a breach warning still appears, make sure that:
  – All your entries are true and correct.
  – You haven’t missed anything important.

If something seems wrong, do not lock yet! Go back to Events and Editing, fix it first, then lock.

Once you lock:
– Your diary is final for that day.
– Any breaches will stay with your diary for 28 days and be visible in the Compliance Section.

What If You Miss a Whole Work or Rest Period?

Sometimes you might have forgotten to log a full break or a work period.

Here’s what you can do:
– Go to logmaster.au
– Sign in to the portal.
– Use the Manual Entry Tool to add in the missing work or rest events.

This will make your diary complete and help clear up breach warnings caused by missing data.

Why Keeping Your Diary Correct Matters

In the EWD system:
– A breach is a floating calculation.
– It is based only on the information you’ve entered.
– If you keep your diary accurate and up-to-date, you can be confident:
  – Any real breaches are properly shown.
  – Any potential breaches caused by mistakes are corrected early.

A truthful and complete diary protects you. It shows you’re managing your hours and following the rules.

Quick Summary

Situation | What to Do
———-|————
Breach warning while diary is unlocked | Fix mistakes — you can still edit
Breach warning while locking diary | Double-check — only lock if everything is correct
Missed entire work/rest periods | Use the manual entry tool at logmaster.au
After locking | Breaches (if any) show in compliance records for 28 days

About EWD Standards

– Electronic Work Diaries (EWDs) must follow strict standards set by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR).
– The EWD keeps a record of your driving and rest times automatically.
– The system must:
  – Alert you about possible breaches before locking.
  – Allow you to fix errors before locking.
  – Keep a copy of locked events for 28 days for compliance inspections.

You are responsible for checking and making sure your entries are right before locking each day.

Logmaster is built to make it easy for you to stay safe, legal, and on top of your hours.

Final Tip

Always check before you lock!
Think of the lock button like signing a legal document:
– Check it’s correct.
– Fix any mistakes.
– Then lock and move forward with confidence!
